The Mahathir Science Award Foundation (MSAF) was primarily established to identify and confer the Mahathir Science Award (MSA) to outstanding individuals or organisations, who have made recognised scientific breakthrough in solving the problems of the tropics. The Foundation advocates scientific work and initiatives towards solving the problems of the tropics.

Current Vacancies






Reporting to the Executive Director, the Programme Executive handles the planning and implementation of all the Foundation’s programmes. The programmes include:

  • The Mahathir Science Award Selection Exercise and Award Ceremony
  • The International Conference on Tropical Sciences
  • The Science for Youth Global Essay Competition



  • Strategise, design and implement programmes that will position the Foundation as a champion of tropical sciences
  • Engage with external stakeholders and funders to present the work of the Foundation
  • Report on the outcomes of the Foundation’s programmes to the Board of Trustees and Working Committees
  • Prepare communication materials to boost the Foundation’s presence. This includes management of the Foundation’s social media and website



  • Have a broad interest in and understanding of science
  • Proactive, able to propose and implement new ideas
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia
  • Able to work independently
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office applications and social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)



  • Bachelor’s/Master’s in any field (science degree highly preferred)
  • 1 – 3 years of working experience in a relevant field (eg. events management, programme management, communications, fundraising)
